Matrix Consulting Group and the City of Reno entered into a consulting agreement in January 2024 to conduct a patrol staffing and deployment study for the Reno Police Department. This study consisted of:
- Personnel interviews/surveys;
- Analysis of workload, staffing and deployment;
- Geographic deployment restructuring analysis; and
- Community input
It was a critical component for a successful study to create a forum where the consultants could hear from the community and develop constructive strategies around this feedback. The project team conducted 4 community workshops (2 virtual and 2 hybrid) to understand:
-
Responsiveness
- What does the community expect when calling the department for assistance?
- Does RPD meet these expectations
- How responsive is the department in non-emergent situations?
-
Engagement and Communication
- Does the community feel RPD is responsive to requests for information and help?
- Do sufficient avenues exist for the community to express its concerns?
- Is there a police presence in the community?
-
Community Priorities
- What public safety priorities does the community want RPD to focus on?
Each meeting was scheduled for 2 hours and began with a brief introduction of the study, followed by an open forum for discussion. Below you can access a recording of those videos and the presentation provided by Matrix Consulting.
