0037Central: Arrest - ADW, Firearm / Poss. of a Firearm by Prohibited Person / Poss. of Short Barreled Shotgun@600 block North Wells Ave.

The victim returned to his room to find the suspect there. The suspect produced a gun and threatened the victim. Michael Mitchell, DOB 8/26/1985, was arrested on the above charges.

1606Central: Arrest - Jaywalking / O&R / PCS @Virginia Street @ 4th Street

Officers observed the suspect Jaywalking and attempted to make contact. The suspect refused to identify himself and resisted the Officers. During the investigation the suspect was found to be in Poss. of a Controlled Substance. Alex Williams, DOB 9/6/1978, was arrested on the above charges.

0503Central: BDW, Stabbing@500 block North Center Street

The victims were in their tent when the unknown suspects entered. One suspect then stabbed one of the victims before fleeing. The victims injury was non-life threatening. The suspects are described as: #1 A/M/A, early fifties, shaved head. #2 W/F/A, mid fifties, blonde hair.

0915Central: Arrest - ADW, Knife / Trespass@200 block North Virginia Street

The victim had asked the suspect to leave the business. The suspect refused to leave and then produced a knife and threatened the victim. Damaen Barrett, DOB 3/5/1977, was arrested on the above charges.

2245Central: Arrest - Battery on Protected Person / O&R @Mill & Sutro Streets

Officers had been asked to follow Remsa personnel as they transported the subject to a local hospital. During the transport the suspect began punching a Medic and continued to struggle and fight with Officers. Michael Whiteford, DOB 4/26/1969, was arrested on the above charges.

2252South : Robbery@1000 block Steamboat Pkwy.

The two suspects entered the business. One suspect was armed and they demanded the money. Total loss has not been disclosed. The suspects are described as: #1 B/M/J, mid teens, 5'5'" tall, LSW all black clothing. #2 W/M/A, early to mid twenties, 5'5"-5'8" tall, LSW a blue hooded sweatshirt.

2301Central: Arrest - Traffic Violations / CCW / PCS / O&R@500 Block North Center Street

Officers observed the suspect riding a bicycle without having a lamp on and attempted to conduct a stop. The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by Officers a short distance away. The suspect continued to struggle with Officers and was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and a BB gun.

Lt. William Rulla Retires After 24 1/2 Years Serving Our Reno Community

 Reno Police Lieutenant William Rulla retires

 

Reno, NV— On July 5, 2020 Lieutenant William Rulla will retire from the Reno Police Department after 24 ½ years of dedicated service to our Reno community.

 

Lt. Rulla has led a long and distinguished career highlighted by his long tenure in leadership positions within the organization:

 

1996-2002- Reno Police Patrol Officer

2002-2003- Reno Police Detective -Burglary Unit

2003-2006- Reno Police Patrol Sergeant 

2006-2008- Regional Law Enforcement Academy Sergeant

2008-2010- Reno Police Patrol Lieutenant

2010 (April-Sept)- Reno Police Internal Affairs Lieutenant

2010-2011- Reno Police Acting Deputy Chief

2011-2013- Reno Police Patrol Lieutenant

2013-2016- Reno Police Detective Lieutenant

2016-2020- Reno Police Patrol Lieutenant

 

Lt. Rulla has contributed to the department's vision of being a model of policing excellence with his contributions in training, officer wellness, investigations, patrol and especially as a senior member of the department's command staff.

 

Lt. Rulla quoted author David Fritchse by expressing “If there is any advice I could leave to the generations to come it would be simple: Forget about the pop ideologies and political bantering of the day and find a place of SERVICE. Instead of being the voice of criticism of our world and of its people, get busy serving them and learn to love that SERVICE”.  

 

Reno Police Chief Jason Soto emphasized Lt. Rulla’s impact on our agency and community, stating: “Lt. William Rulla has been a tremendous asset to the Reno Police Department and our entire community.  His tireless work ethic, professionalism, wisdom and leadership will be greatly missed by our organization.  The men and women of the Reno Police Department congratulate him on his retirement and wish him well in future endeavors”
